Sue-Ann Levy for MP in Canada

Toronto Sun city hall columnist Sue-Ann Levy, 53, has filed as the Progressive Conservative candidate in the downtown Toronto provincial St. Paul’s riding.  A Sept. 17 election is expected to be called next week by Premier Dalton McGuinty.  The Tories are counting on Levy’s appeal as Jewish in the largely Jewish riding, as a strong fiscal conservative and recently-married lesbian.

Perez Hilton vs. will.i.am

Posted 1 year, 2 months ago at 8:36 am. 0 comments

Blogger/Beauty Pageant Judge Perez Hilton found himself under attack in Toronto early this morning, following the Much Music Awards show.  A phone call to the cops was followed by a frantic series of tweets:

I’m in shock. I need the police ASAP. Please come to the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel now. Please.

I was assaulted by Will.i.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke.

Still waiting for the police. The bleeding has stopped. I need to document this. Please, can the police come to the SoHo Met Hotel.

I spoke to my lawyer. I really need to talk to the authorities. Please come to the SoHo Met Hotel. Have called the police. Need them here.

The Toronto police are here now. Thank you. Please stop calling them.

This morning Perez is sporting a badly blackened eye, and Toronto police want to have a talk with to BEP tour manager Polo Molina.perezhilton

will.i.am has opened his own Twitter account to respond to Perez:

i just made a twitter account because it isnt cool for someone to blame you and blast you with lies

Later will.i.am posted  response videos in which he accuses an unknown fan of assaulting Hilton.

“I was the one that came to him with respect, and he was the one who called me a faggot outside the club,” will.i.am says in the video.

“Sounds like somebody wants mad attention and is not really concerned about his health.  Shame on you, shame on your behavior, and that’s just messed up.”

and here.

Perez followed up with a video of his own here under his real name Mario Lavendeira.

UPDATE: Toronto police have charged BEP tour manager Polo Molina with assault related to the incident.

TMZ has fuzzy video.

UPDATE 2: The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has issued a statement calling on Hilton to apologize for using an anti-gay slur during the altercation.  Hilton has so far refused to apologize and instead has criticized GLAAD, telling TMZ, “I am saddened GLAAD chose to victimize me further by criticizing me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent.”  No excuses, Perez.

Xavier Dolan Kills at Cannes

Posted 1 year, 3 months ago at 9:34 pm. 0 comments

20-year-old actor/filmmaker Xavier Dolan put his life savings into making his first full length feature, J’ai tué ma mère (I Killed My Mother).  Although $150,000 is not an insignificant amount of money (he’s had a successful career doing commercials and dubbing French movies for the Quebec market, including the Harry Potter series), it wouldn’t normally be enough to make a splash even in the indie film marketplace.  He took the finished film to Cannes last month with no expectations, and  he was not disappointed.  His movie received a 10-minute standing ovation and went on to win three of the four prizes in the Directors’ Fortnight competition (the Art Cinema prize, the Regards Jeunes award and the SACD trophy.)

Dolan stars in the semi-autobiographical film that he wrote and directed, about a 16-year-old discovering his homosexuality while in constant conflict with his annoying mother.  It’s been described as brutal and hilarious.  Distribution deals have been signed for about ten countries including Canada.

He’s begun to think about a second film, and perhaps a return to Cannes.  “I hope to be back again, but first I need to find some more money.”
